Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Inspection in Houston: What to Know First
A DuraFlex chimney inspection in Houston typically runs $189 – $349 for a Level 1 or Level 2 evaluation, and most inspections are completed within 90 minutes. We provide independent DuraFlex chimney inspection as a third-party service provider, not as a manufacturer-authorized contractor. That independence means we tell you what’s actually happening inside your flue, whether the news is good or expensive.
This page is for Houston homeowners who have a DuraFlex liner or DuraFlex-connected appliance and want a straight answer about its condition. If you’re seeing rust streaks, hearing loose liner sections rattle in the wind, or your real estate agent flagged the fireplace during escrow, call (325) 750-6259 and we’ll schedule the inspection.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- DuraFlex 316L liner seam separation at the corrugation peaks. Houston’s humidity cycles cause the stainless to expand and contract more than most people realize. Over 8 to 12 years, the seam welds on 316L single-wall liners can develop hairline separations where the corrugation ribs meet. During a camera inspection, this shows up as a bright line running along the liner wall. The fix is usually a sectional splice or, if the damage runs more than a few feet, a partial reline with a fresh DuraFlex section. We don’t patch with furnace cement and call it done.
- DuraFlex Pro connection collar leaks at the appliance outlet. The Pro series uses a smooth-wall inner layer that handles higher flue gas temperatures, but the connection collar at the appliance outlet is the weak point. In Houston, where gas logs and direct-vent inserts run long hours during the two cold months we actually get, the collar gasket can dry out and shrink. The symptom is a faint sulfur smell near the fireplace when the burner first lights. We replace the collar gasket and torque the connection back to DuraFlex’s spec, then camera-verify the seal.
- DuraFlex SW (smooth wall) liner corrosion from condensate pooling. This one takes people off guard. Gas appliances produce acidic condensate. If the liner isn’t pitched correctly or the drain tee is clogged, that condensate pools at the base of the liner and eats through the stainless from the inside. We see this in Houston more often than we see fire damage from wood. The camera reveals pinholes at the bottom three feet before they become visible outside. We fix the pitch, clear the drain, and replace the corroded section. The homeowner gets the video before we quote anything.
- DuraFlex aluminum liner pinholes in older furnace flues. A lot of Houston homes from the 1980s and 1990s have DuraFlex aluminum liners running from gas furnaces. Aluminum is fine until it isn’t, and once the protective oxide layer breaks down in Houston’s humid attic spaces, pinholes start appearing. During a flue inspection, we look specifically for the telltale white oxidation spots along the lower third of the liner. If we find them, the right call is usually a stainless reline. We’ll tell you if it can wait another season, and we’ll show you why on the camera.
- DuraFlex rigid to flex transition failures in masonry chimney offsets. When a masonry chimney has an offset, installers sometimes transition from rigid DuraFlex sections to flexible sections at exactly the point of maximum stress. In older Houston homes with settling foundations, that transition point is where the liner separates or kinks. The homeowner hears a metallic tick in high winds, which is the flex section moving inside the flue. We inspect the transition with a camera, and if it’s kinked or separated, we replace the flex section and add a support bracket that keeps it from moving.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Inspection Process
Here’s what happens when you call us for a DuraFlex chimney inspection in Houston:
- 1
You call (325) 750-6259. A live person answers. We book the inspection window and tell you exactly what the visit will cover. You get a written price before we arrive.
- 2
We walk the fireplace and the roof. The tech checks the cap, crown, flashing, and the visible portion of the liner. On a DuraFlex job, we’re looking specifically at the liner termination, the cap connection, and any signs of wind-driven movement.
- 3
We run the camera from top and bottom. Level 1 or Level 2, the camera sees what we can’t. We run it the full length of the liner, from the cap down to the appliance outlet, and we record everything.
- 4
You watch the screen with us. If you’re home, we show you the video live. You see the seams, the joints, the condensate beads, whatever is actually there. You don’t take our word for it.
- 5
We map the condition and write the quote. If the liner is sound, we say so and you get the inspection report. If there’s damage, we mark it section by section and quote the repair with the exact parts we’ll use, whether that’s OEM DuraFlex or a quality aftermarket equivalent.
- 6
Repairs happen in one visit when we can do it safely, and every repair is covered by the written 365-Day Done Right Promise. The guarantee is in writing. If a covered repair fails within one full year, we return at no charge.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Inspection Costs in Houston
We give dollar ranges on this page because nobody should have to call just to learn the ballpark. A Level 1 DuraFlex inspection in Houston, which is the basic annual check, runs $189 – $249. A Level 2 inspection, which adds the full camera run and is what we recommend when you’re buying or selling a house, runs $289 – $349. A Level 3 inspection, which involves removing portions of the chimney or surrounding structure to access hidden sections, starts at $800 and goes up depending on access.
What moves the price: roof pitch and height, whether the liner is single-wall or smooth-wall, how many appliance connections feed into the flue, and whether the chimney has multiple offsets. We hand you the written price before any work starts, and the number on the invoice is the number you approved. Call (325) 750-6259 for a free estimate on a DuraFlex inspection in Houston.
Why Houston Homeowners Call Flint Chimney Co Houston for DuraFlex Work

Our techs are background-checked and uniformed. They know DuraFlex failure modes because they’ve seen them on hundreds of Houston roofs. FAQs
DuraFlex liner warranty terms depend on the model line, the fuel type, and whether the installation was done by a certified installer, so the fastest way to know is to find your installation paperwork. As an independent DuraFlex service provider, we don’t act as a warranty agent, but our inspection report and camera footage will document the liner’s condition in detail, which is exactly what you need if you’re pursuing a claim. Call (325) 750-6259 and we’ll give you the inspection report that makes the case.
Every year, same as any chimney. Houston’s humidity and the sheer amount of downtime between burn seasons mean liners sit in moist air for months at a stretch, and that’s when the slow damage happens. An annual Level 1 inspection catches seam stress and condensate pooling before they become a full reline.
Depends on the damage. Single-section seam separations, collar gasket failures, and bottom-corrosion pinholes are typically repairable with a sectional splice or a replacement collar. If the liner has multiple perforations, heavy corrosion along more than a third of its length, or structural kinking at an offset, full replacement is the honest call. We show you the camera video before we recommend anything.
Level 1 is sufficient for the routine annual check when nothing has changed since the last inspection. Level 2 is required when you’re selling the house, buying the house, changing fuel types, or after a chimney fire. Since most DuraFlex liners in Houston are in gas appliances, Level 2 is the one we recommend if you haven’t had a camera inspection in the last three years.
We can usually schedule a DuraFlex chimney inspection in Houston within five to seven business days, and the inspection itself runs about 60 to 90 minutes. Real estate inspections can be prioritized when the closing date is tight. Call (325) 750-6259 and we’ll get you on the schedule.
