Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Repair in Houston: What to Know First
We repair DuraFlex chimney liners and components throughout Houston, and most jobs are diagnosed and quoted within one visit. A typical DuraFlex repair runs $400 – $2,400 depending on whether we’re replacing a connector, patching a seam, swapping a tee, or relining a section of flue. You’ll get a written price before any work starts, and every DuraFlex repair we make carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing.
This page is for Houston homeowners who already have a DuraFlex liner installed and need honest repair work, not a sales pitch for a new system. If your liner is original to the house, is showing rust or separation, or a previous sweep flagged it, call us at (325) 750-6259. We’ll tell you what you’re actually looking at.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
DuraFlex makes a solid product, but Houston’s humidity, salt air, and the way our older chimneys shift over clay tile mean certain failure modes show up here more than anywhere else. These are the five we see most often on DuraFlex jobs in Houston, and what we do about each one.
- Seam separation at the tee body (DuraFlex 316L and Pro models). The tee where the liner turns up into the flue takes the most expansion and contraction stress in this climate. Houston’s 40-degree winter-to-summer swings, plus the humidity cycling, loosen rivets over time. We see the seam open just enough to leak flue gas into the chase. Our fix is a tee-body replacement with a new connector band, not a patch. A patch at the seam always fails again.
- Pinhole corrosion at the lower sections (DuraFlex 316L in gas applications). This is a Houston-specific issue. Condensing gas appliances produce acidic condensate that pools at the lowest point of the liner. On 316L alloy liners, that acid sits in the same spot for years and eats pinholes through the wall. We replace the corroded lower section and verify the drain path so the new section doesn’t sit in the same puddle.
- Crushed or ovalled flex near the top plate (all DuraFlex flexible liners). When a Houston chimney crown shifts, or a previous contractor pulled the liner through a tight offset, the flex ovalizes right at the top plate transition. That restriction starves the fireplace of draft. We correct the alignment with a proper top plate assembly and, if the flex is too deformed, section in a new length of the same alloy.
- Z-Flex aluminum liner in a wood-burning fireplace (DuraFlex Z-Flex line misapplied). Yes, this is a thing. We’ve found Z-Flex aluminum liners, which DuraFlex rates for gas only, installed in wood-burning Houston fireplaces. Aluminum can’t take wood-fire temperatures. It melts, sags, and separates, and the homeowner usually has no idea until a Level 2 inspection catches it. We remove the aluminum and install the correct 316L or AL 29-4C stainless liner for the fuel type. This is why we camera every flue before quoting.
- Disconnected liner at the appliance collar (DuraFlex Pro & 316L flex). In Houston, the brick settles and the liner pulls away from the appliance collar just enough to break the seal. You get flue gas spillage into the room, and carbon monoxide readings at the register. Our fix is a new appliance connector installed with proper torque, then a draft test and CO check at the room, not just at the flue.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Repair Process
When we take on a DuraFlex repair in Houston, here is exactly how the job goes.
- 1
Call and describe the symptom. You tell us what you’re seeing: water in the firebox, a smell after it rains, a rust stain, a draft problem. Hank’s signature line applies here: “Tell me what you’re seeing, I’ll tell you what it costs to fix it.” You get a ballpark range on the phone.
- 2
We run a Level 2 camera inspection. Every DuraFlex job starts with video inspection. We need to see the exact section, the exact failure, and the condition of the surrounding flue before we touch anything. You’re shown the footage.
- 3
Written price before any work. Not an estimate by text. A written scope: what is being replaced, what alloy, what parts (OEM DuraFlex when the warranty or the application calls for it, and we’ll say when a quality aftermarket band or plate does the same job and why), and what it costs. The number you approve is the number on the invoice.
- 4
The repair. Our techs do the section replacement, tee rebuild, top plate correction, or connecting component swap with the flue clean and the workspace protected. We use professional-grade DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco products specified by the job, not by margin.
- 5
Draft test, CO check, cleanup. Before we call the job done we verify the draft, check CO levels at the appliance and in the room, and clean the work area including any roof surface we touched.
- 6
Written guarantee. Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a covered repair fails within one full year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s in writing on every invoice.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Repair Costs in Houston
Here are honest ranges for the DuraFlex repairs we do most in Houston. These reflect what we charge on typical single-story homes with standard chase access.
| Repair | Typical Houston Price |
|---|---|
| DuraFlex tee body replacement (including connector band) | $550 – $900 |
| Lower liner section replacement (pinhole corrosion, 5 – 8 ft) | $800 – $1,500 |
| Top plate and alignment correction | $400 – $750 |
| Z-Flex aluminum liner removal and correct stainless replacement | $1,800 – $2,400 |
| Appliance connector replacement with draft and CO testing | $450 – $800 |
What moves the price is access: a two-story chase, a steep Houston roof, or a liner buried behind masonry all cost more to reach and work safely. We’ll tell you exactly what applies to your house before you commit. Free estimates at (325) 750-6259.
Why Houston Homeowners Call Flint Chimney Co Houston for DuraFlex Work
We’ve been running chimney crews in Houston for over a decade. Hank Delano grew up in Los Angeles and trained at LA Trade-Technical College, then brought that same discipline to Texas. He’s the one who sketches the flue diagram on a notepad before quoting a dollar, and he’s the one who insists every DuraFlex job gets a camera inspection first. That’s not a sales tactic; it’s how you find out whether the liner is actually failing or just dirty. Houston humidity does things to mortar and metal that most people never think about until something falls or smells wrong, which is why we route every repair through the same process: inspect, document, quote in writing, fix, guarantee.
We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider; we are not authorized by or affiliated with the manufacturer. That independence means we’ll recommend what the flue actually needs, whether it’s an OEM part or an aftermarket band that does the same job for less, and we’ll put that recommendation in writing. We also work with HeatShield and Gelco when those systems fit the job better. And every call is answered by a live person, 24/7. No voicemail, no callback form. Call (325) 750-6259 and we’ll schedule the inspection.
FAQs
DuraFlex liner warranties typically apply to the product as manufactured, not the installation labor, and most require professional installation to remain valid. If your liner has a manufacturing defect, we can help you identify it and document it, but we can’t file a warranty claim on your behalf as an independent service provider. What we can do is tell you honestly whether the failure looks like a material defect or an installation or environmental issue, so you know what to take back to the original installer or to DuraFlex.
We use OEM DuraFlex parts when the application calls for them and aftermarket parts when the OEM part is overpriced or overkill for the repair. The tee body, top plate, and connector band are all parts where we’ll specify exactly what we’re installing before you approve the quote. You’ll know whether it’s DuraFlex or a professional-grade equivalent, and why.
Most inspections are scheduled within a few days of your call, and after the inspection, we can usually complete the repair same week depending on part availability and roof access. We don’t promise same-day; we do promise to tell you our actual schedule when you call (325) 750-6259.
You can repair just a section if the rest of the liner still gauges within spec on the camera. Pinhole corrosion at the bottom doesn’t automatically mean the upper sections are shot. But if the liner shows thinning in multiple spots or the failure is at a stress point like the tee or an offset, patching a section is throwing good money after bad. We’ll show you the footage and give you a straight answer. If a section repair will hold, we’ll say so. If it won’t, we’ll say that too.
It depends on the failure. A separated tee or disconnected appliance collar leaks flue gas into the chase or the room, and that’s a carbon monoxide risk that should not wait. Pinhole corrosion at the bottom of a gas liner leaks condensate, which slowly rusts and stains but is less immediately dangerous, though it will get worse and cost more to fix later. Our camera shows you exactly what kind of failure you have, and our written quote tells you exactly what it costs to fix it. Call (325) 750-6259 for a free estimate.
