Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Sweep in Houston: What to Know First
A DuraFlex chimney sweep in Houston typically costs $189 – $260 for a standard cleaning and runs about 60 – 90 minutes on site. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider – not a manufacturer rep – and we schedule most sweeps within 3 – 5 business days. That said, Houston’s humidity and our older masonry stock mean a surprising number of DuraFlex liners show creosote buildup or corrosion that a basic sweep won’t resolve. If you own a DuraFlex liner and want the straight answer on whether it’s clean, safe, or due for replacement, call (325) 750-6259 and we’ll give you a written price before anything comes off the truck.
This page is for Houston homeowners who have DuraFlex chimney components and need a sweep, an inspection, or an honest read on what’s actually happening inside the flue. If you’ve got a fireplace that smokes, a liner that’s never been looked at, or a sweep company that quoted you a number without ever putting a camera up the flue, you’re in the right place.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- DuraFlex 316L liner pitting from Houston humidity. The 316L alloy is decent stainless, but Houston’s coastal air and high humidity attack the weld seams first. We regularly find pinhole corrosion along the seam line on liners that are only 8 – 10 years old, especially in homes near Galveston Bay or the ship channel. The fix is a camera inspection to map the damage, then a decision: reline if the pitting is isolated, or replace the liner section if it’s structural. A sweep alone won’t fix pinholes, and we’ll tell you that plainly.
- DuraFlex double-wall connector warping on wood stoves. The double-wall connector pipe handles very high flue gas temperatures, and we’ve pulled warped sections out of Houston homes where a stove ran too hot for too long. The symptom is usually a faint metallic rattle when the stove heats up, or a visible seam gap at the joint. Our fix is to replace the warped connector with OEM DuraFlex parts when warranty matters, or quality aftermarket if it’s past warranty and the measurements match exactly.
- Creosote glaze on DuraFlex smooth-wall liners. The smooth-wall DuraFlex liners build creosote differently than corrugated liners. Instead of flaky Stage 1 or Stage 2 creosote, you get a hard, glassy Stage 3 glaze that a standard wire brush simply polishes. We use mechanical rotary tools with carbide chain heads to break the glaze without gouging the liner wall. This is the single most common reason Houston DuraFlex owners get told they need a new liner when they actually just need a competent sweep.
- Improperly terminated DuraFlex caps causing backdraft. A lot of Houston homes have DuraFlex liners that were installed by a previous owner or a handyman who never matched the cap to the liner diameter. The result is a venturi-effect backdraft on windy days, or rain entry that pools at the bottom of the liner. We see this often in Montrose and the Heights, where older masonry chimneys were retrofit with DuraFlex liners decades ago. The fix is to inspect the termination, verify the cap matches the liner size, and reseal the crown if needed.
- Bridging creosote at the tee body. On DuraFlex systems that connect to a wood stove or insert through a tee, creosote accumulates at the tee snout and forms a bridge that blocks draft. This is a DuraFlex-specific design reality: the tee body is a natural collection point. Our sweep process includes removing the tee cap and cleaning that snout thoroughly, which a lot of sweep companies skip because it means getting down at the appliance level. It’s the difference between a sweep that lasts six months and one that lasts a full burning season.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Process
- 1
The call. You reach a live person at (325) 750-6259. We ask what you’re seeing: smoke backdraft, visible creosote, a smell you can’t place. If Hank Delano is on the line, he’ll probably say: “Tell me what you’re seeing, I’ll tell you what it costs to fix it.” Then we book a window and show up in that window.
- 2
On-site inspection before anything else. We run a Level 1 or Level 2 inspection depending on what you’re experiencing. Level 2 includes a camera run through the full liner length. This is where we find the glaze, the pinholes, the tee bridge, or nothing at all. You see the footage. We explain it in plain words.
- 3
Written price, locked in. You get a written price for the sweep and any recommended repair before a single tool comes off the truck. The number on the invoice is the number you approved. No add-ons, no “while we’re in here” games.
- 4
The sweep itself. We use mechanical rotary tools sized to your DuraFlex liner diameter, and we clean the connector, the tee body if you have one, and the smoke chamber. We cover the hearth with drop cloths and run a HEPA vacuum at the appliance level. No dust in the living room. No mess left behind.
- 5
Post-sweep verification. We run the camera again or do a visual check to verify the liner wall is clean and intact. If we found a problem before the sweep, we show you the after footage so you can see exactly what changed.
- 6
Written guarantee. Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If a covered repair fails within a year, we return at no charge. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s not negotiable.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Costs in Houston
A standard DuraFlex chimney sweep in Houston runs $189 – $260. If we’re doing a Level 2 camera inspection at the same time, add $95 – $150. Here’s the honest breakdown:
- Standard sweep, single flue: $189 – $225
- Sweep + Level 2 camera inspection: $284 – $375
- Sweep with Stage 3 glaze removal: $260 – $340
- Tee body cleanout (wood stove or insert setups): $40 – $75, added to the sweep
- DuraFlex liner replacement (if needed): $1,800 – $3,600, depending on length and access
The price moves based on liner length, creosote stage, and whether we’re cleaning a tee assembly or a straight run. A two-story home in Meyerland costs more than a single-story ranch in Spring Branch because of ladder work and liner height. Every quote is written before we start, and the estimate is free. Call (325) 750-6259 and we’ll give you a real number for your specific setup.

FAQs
No. A professional chimney sweep using mechanical tools sized for your liner diameter does not void the DuraFlex warranty. What voids it is using chemical cleaners not approved for stainless liners, or using a brush that scores the liner wall. We will never use chemicals or abrasives that aren’t approved for your liner type, and our sweep process is documented so you have a record if you ever need to file a warranty claim.
Every 30 – 50 fires, or once per year, whichever comes first. Houston’s humidity makes creosote accumulate faster than in drier climates because the moisture helps creosote bind to the liner wall. If you burn unseasoned wood or run a wood stove as your primary heat, sweep twice a year. If we find Stage 3 glaze, book the next sweep six months out rather than waiting a full year.
Yes. We’ll run a camera through the liner as part of the inspection. If we find pinholes, seam separation, or extensive corrosion, we’ll show you the footage and give you a written recommendation. If the liner is still sound, we’ll tell you that too, and we’ll put it in writing so you know exactly what you’re working with. Nothing is recommended without camera evidence you can see yourself. Call (325) 750-6259 to schedule.
Both, depending on the job. If your liner is under warranty, we use OEM DuraFlex parts so the warranty stays intact. If it’s past warranty, we evaluate whether OEM or a quality aftermarket equivalent makes sense for the specific component and installation. We’ll show you the price difference and let you decide. The decision is yours, the written quote is binding either way.
The creosote builds to Stage 3 glaze, which restricts draft and becomes a legitimate chimney fire risk. Even if it doesn’t ignite, the draft restriction pushes carbon monoxide back into the house. On a DuraFlex liner specifically, skipped sweeps allow pinhole corrosion to go undetected, which means exhaust gases leaking into the chimney chase instead of out the top. We’re not scare-selling; we just want you to know what the risk actually is. If you’re overdue, call (325) 750-6259 and we’ll get you on the schedule.
